Ranked: The World’s Most Popular Social Networks, and Who Owns Them

Currently, there are over 4.5 billion people around the world who use some form of social media—about 57% of the global population.

Yet, while social media’s audience is widespread and diverse, just a handful of companies control a majority of the world’s most popular social media platforms. Meta, the tech giant formerly known as Facebook, owns four of the five most widely used platforms.

This graphic highlights the biggest social networks across the globe, measured by their monthly active users (MAUs).

Addis Ababa A City on the Rise

Addis Ababa (or are you Team Addis Abeba?) is located on a well-watered plateau surrounded by hills and mountains in Ethiopia’s geographic center. Founded in 1887 by Emperor Menelik II and Empress Taitu, Addis Ababa grew organically in its first decades without any formal planning. The city was envisioned as a “modernist monument” that would function as a catalyst for Ethiopia to enter the world economy. Today, it is undergoing a massive transformation as it strives to become Africa’s diplomatic capital and international hub.

The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, in collaboration with Eagle Lion System Technology PLC, launched the mobile application called #Nedaj last Friday, March 31, at the NOC gas station in Kera(ቄራ), in the presence of officials and employees of both organizations.

Drivers can simply download the fuel application from the App store and Play store and link it to their Ethiopian Commercial Bank account to purchase fuel from any gas station using only their license plate number.

In the next 15 days, it is known that a directive prohibiting cash extortion will be implemented at gas stations located throughout Addis Ababa and some regional cities.

Bole’s Bajaj, the mule of the city, or whatever name you’ve heard— it feels like the closely-packed Vitz has been part of Addis’ facade since time immemorial. But if you’ve been living under a rock, we will do a quick introduction. Toyota Vitz, also known as Toyota “Yaris” and Toyota “Echo” in the export market, is a subcompact hatchback launched by Japan’s top-class automaker Toyota Motors in 1999. And in the same year, the Toyota Vitz won the Car of the Year award in Japan. . . .
