የጆሮ እንፌክሽን በብዛት በባክቴሪያ ወይም በቫይረስ ምክንያት የሚከሰት የህመም አይነት ነዉ፡፡የጆሮ ኢንፌክሽን ብዙ ጊዜ የላይኛውን የአየር ቧንቧ ከሚያጠቁ በሽታዎች ጋር ተያይዞ የሚመጣ በሽታ ነው፡፡

የላይኛውን የአየር ቧንቧ (እንደ ጉንፋንና አለርጂ የመሳሰሉት…) የሚያጠቁ በሽታዎች በሚኖሩ ጊዜ የጆሮን የመካከለኛውን ክፍል እና ጉሮሮን የሚያገናኘው ቱቦ (eustachian tube) ያብጥና አየር ወደ መካከለኛው የጆሮ ክፍል እንዳይገባ ያደርጋል፡፡

ይኼም በመካከለኛው የጆሮ ክፍል ውስጥ ፈሳሽ እንዲጠራቀም እና ለባክቴሪያ አመቺ የመራቢያ ሁኔታን እንዲፈጥር ያደርጋል፡፡

ባክቴሪያ ከተራባ በኋላ በአካባቢው ያሉ ህዋሶችን በመግደል መግል እንዲፈጠር ያደርጋል፡፡ ይህ መግል በበዛ ቁጥር የጆሮ ታምቡርን በመጫን ህመም እንዲሁም የመስማት ችግርን ያስከትላል፡፡

1 አጣዳፊ የጆሮ ኢንፌክሽን (acute otitis media) ማለት በ 15 ቀን ውስጥ የሚፈጠር የመሀል የጆሮ ክፍል ኢንፌክሽ ሲሆን የጆሮ የመሀለኛውን ክፍል ያጠቃል።

2 የጠና የጆሮ ኢንፌክሽን (chronic otitis media) ማለት ከ 15 ቀን በላይ የቆየ የጆሮ ኢንፌክሽን ሲሆን ብዙውን ጊዜ መግል የመያዝ ነገር ይኖራል።

3 ኢፊውዥን የጆሮ ኢንፌክሽን (otitis media with effusion) ይህ ከአጣዳፊ የጆሮ ኢንፌክሽን በሆኋ ወይም የህመሙ ምልክቶች ከጠፉ በሆኋ ፈሳሽ እዛው የመሀል የጆሮ ክፍል ሲቀር ነው።
