Carl Sagan explaining the Drake equation:

N = R*•fp•ne•fl•fi•fc•L

"In 1961, Carl’s close friend, fellow astronomer Frank Drake, created an equation for calculating the number of intelligent civilizations in the galaxy."

The Drake equation is:

N = R*•fp•ne•fl•fi•fc•L
where:
N = number of civilizations in our galaxy with which communication might be possible (i.e. which are on our current past light cone);
&
R∗ = average rate of star formation in our galaxy
fp = fraction of those stars that have planets
ne = average number of planets that can potentially support life per star that has planets
fl = fraction of planets that could support life that actually develop life at some point
fi = fraction of planets with life that actually go on to develop intelligent life (civilizations)
fc = fraction of civilizations that develop a technology that releases detectable signs of their existence into space
L = length of time for which such civilizations release detectable signals into space

Where does Jupiter get its rings?

The main ring of Jupiter was discovered in 1979 by the Voyager 1 spacecraft, but its origin was then a mystery! Galileo data confirmed the hypothesis that the ring was created by meteoroids striking small nearby satellites.

When a small meteoroid collides with the small satellite Metida, for example, it evaporates and ejects dust and other debris into orbit around Jupiter.

This infrared image of Jupiter from the James Webb Space Telescope shows not only Jupiter and its clouds, but also this ring.

Their number is unbelievable

These are all the satellites currently orbiting the Earth
