We must stop them from Weaponising ’Ethiopia’ and ‘ኢትዮጵያዊነት' for they are in-/anti-Ethiopian!

The era of weaponising ‘Ethiopia’ and ‘ኢትዮጵያዊነት' to suppress the just causes of the broad masses of Ethiopia by Amhara political class is gone. As the work of unmasking them continues, we also need to remember, document, and account for the unspeakable atrocities committed under the guise of this weaponised notion of ‘Ethiopia’ and hollow ’ኢትዮጵያዊነት' (which, thus far, is suffused only with አማራነት). አማራነት is not ኢትዮጵያዊነት. If we go by the statements and practices of the Ethio-Amhara elite (of only the past few years), their ‘አማራነት’ is nothing but genocidal madness.

It’s time to deny them any claim to 'ኢትዮጵያዊነት' (for it has demonstrated, time and again, that it is consistently anti-Ethiopian in practice). It’s time to disabuse them of the name and notion of Ethiopia. If Ethiopia is to survive and thrive as a multinational country (much less a polity right now), then we must continue to unmask the ’ኢትዮጵያዊነት' of the Amhara elite.

ኢትዮጵያዊነት must be emptied out. It must be free of any cultural/ethno-national content so that it can allow space for a set of shared principles to be held sacred by everyone in this multinational, multi-foundational, multi-lingual/multi-cultural country.

The #Unmasking_continues even as the Amhara elite (as can be seen in the statement below) are fast unmasking themselves as champions of exclusion, chauvinism, and genocidal madness.

For anyone concerned about peace, justice, and progress in that geographical space called Ethiopia, the task of denying the right to weaponize ‘Ethiopia’ by the Ethio-Amhara elite is a priority.
