2020-12-25 13:29:04 Jamii.One Users Received Their First Loan

Jamii.one, a platform that allows savings groups to record their saving activities, has partnered with Metamamen MFI to provide loans for its 80 users for the first time. An additional 70 Jamii user are expected to receive a loan this month as well.

The loan that has to be repaid in 6 months, includes a 3-month grace period for re-payment, and it is based on group collateral.

Jamii aims to digitalize traditional and offline savings groups in Ethiopia and other African countries in order to connect them with Formal financial institutions.

2020-12-18 15:00:44 A coding training for 2000 African Girls, 124 being Ethiopian, ended this week. The continental coding boot-camp aimed at promoting the importance of ICTs as a tool for the empowerment of women. The girls were on training since November 30, organized by T[he Economic Commission for Africa (ECA](https://www.uneca.org/)) and the [International Telecommunication Union (ITU)](https://www.itu.int/en/Pages/default.aspx).

The program included different courses, including how to code using Scratch program, Robotics and Internet of Things, AI, Design thinking, Gaming, Fashion, Animation and to gender equality, sustainable development goals (SDGs) and techniques in confidence-building and public speaking.

2020-12-18 09:23:34 Science and Higher Education Minister and Higher Education Institutes launched a country-wide digital skill action plan. The action emphasis reaching the goal of Higher Education institutions digital Ethiopia 2025 goal of increasing the job opportunities, improve the foreign currency problem and inclusive development.

The major five objectives of the action plan are to create and implement policies, standards, and frameworks, work to make timely improvements; support the quality of education and research and modernize the system with ICT, enable the institutes to access high-speed broadband and connect to the internet through the centralized cloud service, and ongoing capacity building training that can enhance digital skills leaders and staff of the educational centers.
